Is the hard drive about to die?

Hmm... weird. I've known tons of WD drives to do the squeaky thing.

If it's the regular clickity-click type sound and the usual whir, it's fine. Any other noise besides that, chances are the hard drive may be getting ready to go "bye-bye". How long have you had your drive? If you had a for a long time and it's just making that noise now, please get a new one. At work, we take no chances on something like this. The old drive comes out and in with the new.

I had the drive for about 2 1/2 years. The noise it makes is far from normal. Newegg here I come!!!

Yup, get that sucker out of there. I'll probably get mine out of there in about the same time too. I have mine for a year now. No strange sounds yet, but the first sign I hear it, it's coming out. The old drive can be a doorstop or I'll just tear it apart to see the insides.

I have a Western Digital 80GB SATA150 drive. My next one will be a Raptor drive. Need for speed...

The new 150 gig Raptor makes me drool. I'll save stuff like that for my dream machine.

Backup your data, and buy a new hard drive. You're bound for an upgrade anyways!
