X1600XT 256MB 128-bit or 7800GS/

I dont have too much knowledge on what to look for in a newr graphics card like these and what they do for performance in a game.

What interface are you using? The 7800 GS is AGP only, but the X1600 XT is PCI-E and AGP. They're similar in performance, give or take.

The 7800gs agp version is better then the 7800pci-e versions ?

The 7800GS is basically a lowered version of the 7800GT just in AGP interface.

The X1600XT is good because for the price of ONE 7800GS, you could buy TWO X1600XT's and put them in CrossFire. For budget wise, the X1600XT wins. But head to head, the 7800GS. Although to use CrossFire you need PCI-Express.

Yeah, sorry, I figured he was talking about a head-to-head situation since he said X1600XT vs. 7800GS... 1338DuD3 is completely right.

Well, I don't honestly see why people under-rate the X1600 series video cards. I mean, they have really good specs for their price, not to mention, you don't need a Master card to have them in CrossFire. Plus, the 7800GS is in AGP interface, which is slow compared to PCI-Express, which is twice as fast as AGP.

So the X1600XT has more memory, depending which model you want, it also has the ability to use a dual-GPU interface. CrossFire is really nice to have with the X1600 cards. If I was to buy a 7800GS or an X1600XT. I'd take the X1600XT, actually, make that TWO X1600XT's, because I'd buy two X1600XT's for the price of one 7800GS. You just can't beat the price of the X1600. :D
