Windows refuses to open certain exe files

Hi, recently my computer has been having some problems opening "Installer" files and some games, instead of the usual error where it doesn't open the file, this one is different: it opens the file then closes it a couple of seconds (like 2) after. I would really appreciate if anyone could give me some help on this

that happened to me with IE, i dont know why, it may be your virus protection

my antivirus is off and this happens normally with programs which require directx/opengl and installers for games like far cry and gta san andreas that used to work before :S

windows firewall.... just a thought. i sometimes get random problems like that.
