Master drive not detected

I am trying to install a slave drive on my computer and I am running into a few problems. I set the jumpers correctly on both the master and slave, but when I boot up only the slave drive is recognized. If I boot up with only the master drive connected then it (the master drive) is detected just fine. It's just when I try to boot up with both drives connected that the master drive is not dectected. I have tried switching there positions on the controller but that doesn't work. I also tried playing around with the boot secquence, but can't seem to figure it out. Any advice/info is greatly appreciated!

did u put the master on the end of the cable and the slave on the next one down?
