I think he would've meant the server password ... what your talking about is only for BIOS passwords
Using Knoppix is a good idea to transfer all the files that you need, projects and what you've been working on, to a removeable storage device such as a flash drive, then you can format and then replace all the files ..
Active@ Password Changer might help you. That is a useful tool that can reset lost or forgotten password. It literally saved me before so I suppose you give it a glance.
