250W PS with a Radeon x700 Pro

Most newer cards should automatically take over the precedence of the integrated video. In case it doesn't, yes, disable it in the BIOS. Try installing it first to see what happens.

That power supply is ok, if that's what you want. For that price, I would go with something bigger.

ok, I'm new to computer hardware and installing new hardware. My current power supply is 250W and I'm looking to buy a new video card (ATI Radeon x700 Pro). But, the card says a 300W power supply or greater is recommended.

If I install the card with my 250W PS will it even work at all? Or will I have to dish out some extra money for a new PS?

Thanks.

Simple answer...

Radeon X700 PRO requires 300W PSU. You have a 250W. OF COURSE YOU NEED A NEW PSU!!!

I'm already getting a new PSU. How will I know what will work and what wont?

yes, that should be fine. But PSUs are always about the wattage. You want high Amps on the 12V rail. New computers are dependant about the 12V rail and not so the 5V rail anymore.

EDIT: Isnt this in the wrong section? Mods, please move it.
