1. what is ati's equivalent of a nvidia 6600gt, 6800gs, and 7800gt?

2. and which are better? and can somebody explain the naming of ati's viedo cards?

they kinda confuse me. like with nvidia, teh bigger the number, the better the card(in most cases).

thanks guys.

well for ati it goes x800, x850, then u start getting into the x1800 then the x1900 that gives u a basic idea, i dont know what the equivilant is for nvidia but ide prefer to go with an nvidia card over ati but they are both good its just a matter of preference

yeah, I prefer Nvidia. Their cards seem to be cheaper and outperform ATi.

well, i was reading another topic on here, and somebody said something about the x1900 being cheaper and better than the 7800gtx. so i thought i might look into ati. thats all.

The X1900XT competes with the 7800GTX, the X1900XTX competes with the 7800GTX 512. Make sense?

The 6600GT competes with the X700 line up. The X800 competes with the 6800 line up, and then the X850 competes with the 7800GS line up, or the 6800GT. Either way, ATI has more cards to choose form that range in specifications to get EXACTLY what you want. NVIDIA has fewer cards, but they compete with more cards and are reasonably priced, and generally out perform most of ATIs counterparts, with the esception to the X1800Xt which in most benchmakrs ties or beats the 7800GTX, and the X1900 series which is targeted at the 7800GTX and beats it in every catagory, except the X1900XTX, which is targeted at the main NVIDIA card, the 7800GTX 512mb version, and it beats it overall.

So right now ATI has the most powerful card, until March when NVIDIA releases it's 7900 series products. So, if you're wanting to get a new graphics card, wait another 3 weeks to see what the 7900 puts out. Not to mention, the 7800 series cards drop in price, thuis making them more affordable! :D

oh. well, i am looking for a new card, so i think i will wait for the 7900. the 6800 gs should drop a bit with the release right?

Well, maybe not dirt cheap. I think a Radeon 7000 is considered dirt cheap for a video card: 30 bucks.

If I was you I wouldn't even get a 6800 series video card. The suspected release of the new 7900 card is in March, that will lower the prices of the 7800GT, 7800GTX, and the AGP 7800GS. Get somethign that has more pixelpipelines, more pixel shader processors (the more of these is really what determains performance!), and somethgin with higher clock speeds. The 6800 series line up is goign to be dead here fairly soon. If you're going with AGP 8x, get the 7800GS, if you're getting PCi-Express, get the 7800GT. You won't regret it. :D
