Well folks, no banana have tried to fix it by re-installing windows twice now and nothing... I managed to get explorer working for 2 minutes one of the times and then nothing again

well i would of also said it was a virus but if you have done a clean install and nothing works then i dont know what it could be. dont see how it can be hardware related. try and get hold of another explorer.exe file and go into task manager and run that file. maybe the one on your xp cd is corrupted for some reason

Like you said, restore to yesterday is the best place to start.My opinion.
