not only this but microsoft is "soft-requiring" ECC RAM in VISTA computers, which is ridiculous because ecc ram is so bloody expensive, and there is not variety. i dont know what kind of a monitor im going to get, is hd playback the only requirement for that?

They say you can run it on 512MB RAM but this is higly un-recomended, To run vista at its full potencial you owuld probly need 2GB RAm but i think 1GB or 1.5 would be fine, correct me if i am wrong.
