I have a pretty old 17" CRT. With my new system, I run all the games I play at all settings high, you can see what I mean with HL2 Lost Coast or CS:S, if you go to options>video>advanced. So, everything at high, antialiasing at 6x which is the highest, for me atleast.. For filtering mode however, What should I use? The options are Bilinear, trilinear, and then Anisotropic 2x, 4x, 8x, and 16x..

Just wondering, thought the filtering mode is probably different depending on what type of monitor you have, so, trilinear or anisotropic as high as it goes without lagging..

It has nothing to do with the monitor. Antistropic Filtering takes a texture, and puts that many times more on top, so it's more defined. I do antistropic filtering 4x.
