Newbie mess up

This is a newbie mess up i hope someone can help me.

Just got a PC which came with etrust antivirus software which i activated as a temp measure until i got a different package.

A few weeks later I then decided to download McAfee and use this.

However i forgot to uninstall the etrust software.So the intant the McAfee went live my PC locked up.Now on start up if i,m quick on the log in page i can get the pc to go to the desktop before locking up.

Help please is there anyway i can disable any of the antivirus packages to free up my pc

Please keep it to step by step simple procedures because as you can tell i'm not very good with PCs

can you hit the f8 buton and get into safe mode?

yeah, try going into safe, and uninstalling it from there...
