CD Drive is missing

Help Please,
I have a Acer Aspire notebook and the cd drive is missing from my computer.
When i say it is missing i mean that the icon is missing.
When the notebook is posting i can eject the cd with no problem but when the machine finishes posting and starts windows XP the cd will not eject and does not show in My Computer.
I have tried to search for it but with no results.

how do i do that as i dont know where they are?

Go into Control Panel > System > Device Manager (under one of the tabs, I forget which) and see if it will recognize that it is actually connected to the computer there. If it is there, what information is there about it?

I cant even see it in the device manager
