Help with dvd burner... please.....

i got a dvd burner... and when i put a blank dvd in i cant do nothing at all it wont burn and as soon as i put the dvd in ( which is blank ) it freezers whatever i have open... the light that shows that the burner is reading it never turns off.. the burner is... Toshiba dvd rom sd r5002

Do you have it installed, or just hooked up?

it installed and everything... it can read dvd movies and stuff but not blank disks..
