actually it's the 7900GTX. And they are also making the 7900GT, but the GTX ofcourse will be their best card when it comes out. And I heard that both the 7900GT and 7900GTX are coming out at the same time.
Yup...it's below the 6800 GT/GS and above the 6800 LE. 12 pixel pipelines and 5 vertex shaders. 325 core and 700 memory, although my BFG Tech one came factory overclocked so it's at 350 core and 700 memory. I got it for about $280 when the 6800's were still new. Now nVIDIA discontinued the 6800 NU.
The 7900 series cards I don't think will win it this time around. That 512 X1900XTX seems a bit amazing. I don't think nVidia can trump this one. I'd love to see dual X1900XTX's in Crossfire mode and have it linked with an FX-60 and 2 Gigabytes of RAM, vs 7900GTX's in True SLI linked with the FX-60 and 2 Gigabytes of RAM. Now that my friends, is a very very powerful machine!
Or just get quad opterons running 32gb (yes, gb) of ram, oc the whole thing beyond 17.6ghz on air, 8 hitachi deskstar's (500gb each), dual 512 x1900xtx's, x-fi pro, 1kw psu, plextor dvd drives, and some huge case to hold it all... *ah*
