Hello,

I am still using an Epox 8RDA+ motherboard with an outdated Athlon cpu. I would like to upgrade the AMD cpu and continue using this motherboard.

When it comes to hardware compatibility, I am pretty lost. Can someone recommend the 'best bang for the buck' cpu that is compatible with the mobo?

Reason for CPU upgrade: would like to play modern games like Half-Life 2, Quake 2004, and CS:S
and get faster rendering time for video editing/post production

I appreciate your time! 8)

Specs: XP Pro sp2
CPU: Athlon 1200
Harddrive: 7200rpm
Mobo: Epox 8RDA+
GPU: Geforce 2

I will upgrade the videocard (6800GT) along with the cpu. To save money, I like to reuse the mobo and upgrade only the cpu.

I dont think u can use the mobo cause the AMD 64 use socket 939 what socket is your mobo

You could use an AMD Athlon XP 3000+ or a Sempron 3200+ easily. These mobos are fairly decent

He cant upgrade that much. You are probably useing Socket A. Your board probably only uses PC2100 in single chan and a 4x AGP instad of 8. I would get a new motherboard along with the CPU they are pretty cheap now adays.
