right i got thw new laptop today and it came with a cable which looks like a key board/mouse one and it was in with the video cables so i found out it fitted in my camcorder and laptop but its not recgognising it or letteing me capture it can any one tell me if its even possible to do so??? if so how?????

y not just use your camcorder cable and not the one that came with the laptop? if they both dont work make sure u have all the up to date drivers for everything and sometimes i think u need to install the camcorder software for it to be recognized
 
i didnt get a cble with the camcorder and no software came its worked with a fire wire before but that wasnt mine
 
hmmm are you sure the port on the laptop is for input!?

sounds like its an s-video cable which i would have thought was used as an output!
 
Do you have a firewire port on your laptop? If so, just get another firewire cable, and you'll be all set. If you have windows xp, just open up your windows movie maker software, and you should be able to capture video off the camcorder.....
