Default Adding text box/ unwanted underlined text?

I'm using MS Office Professional Enterprise Edtion 2003 - Publisher to design a web page. When I add a text box in Publisher (Web designer) most of the time it adds an underline under the text. I don't want this and I can't figure out how to stop it. Underline is not selected in the fonts box nor is it in the default format so why is this happening?

Any help is much appreicated
