How can I get rid of everything, Including of the OS

Not a reformat, because on this hard drive, there are like 2 partitioned parts. On has 23mb left, and the other some like 18000. I don't really get whats going on. I wanna get rid of it all. Total erase of the hard drive. So any idea how to do this. And still reinstall the os? Or should i leave it. Because on this compter there is like some three gb used, but the os is only using like 1.22. I cant figure out what else is on it. Its bugging the crap out of me. So i want it all gone, and then a fresh start.

boot with knoppix and then delte everything through that. then install windows and choose keep all info.

Knoppix confuses me.. so is there anything else that would work?
