Intel Pentium Extreme Edition 955 Processor

Intel will win this year when it comes to CPUs. If they can just make their CPUs at better prices, then they'll win when it comes to the gamer community. But intel owns when it comes to business.

The new 955 processor is goign to be amazing to overclock if you have watercooling. I'm thinking for the extreme overclocker they'll hit upwords of 10+GHz. But for the average Joe, I'm guessing 5.0GHz. :)

Well, it appears as though the Presler isn't as good as everyone thought.
So far, it has a higher L2 cache, faster clock speed, Quad FSB Doubler, smaller 65nm process....Mmm... That's about it. But, even with all of this, it can barely beat the X2 4800+! As a matter of fact, the X2 4800 is still in the lead and it's a 90nm process.

It took Intel this long just to match up with the X2 4800+, and we haven't even talked about AMD's new FX-60 and X2 5000+ processors yet.

I'm sorry, but Intel is getting close, but not there yet.

well the FX-60 is a joke. Intel will be using GDDR3 Ram not DDr2 will be on the 65nm and have there new socket. The X2 although a good chip wont be considered for the hardcore gamer ever when the 5200+ come. Since FX is now Dual core that is AMDs money maker in the future. withthe FX-62 and 64. and the AM2 socket.

Conroe with 4mb cache and GDDR3 System memory is something NO ONE not even AMD should brush off cause it may bite them in the ass.

What are you on???????? Thats just it? that is a total new generation of chips. What else do you think there is to improve in a chip? Unless it comes with a gold tw@t to bang that is as good an upgrade as you can get. What you should be asking is WTF did AMD do to the FX-60 which is a big pile of steamy crap :p

GDDR3 is for graphics only. Intel wont be going DDR3 anytime soon. Nor will Intel be using a new socket. They have released a new chipset, the 975x. Get information straight before going to flame other people.

rofl!

GDDR3 means literally, "Graphics Double Data Rate [RAM] 3"
It was solely intended for graphics only and not for processors such as Intel's upcomings. Why wouldn't it work on Intel's processors? Because that sort of ram is designed to stream data in and out simultaneously to create a steady stream of information to and from the GPU of a graphics card. System memory was designed to allow the CPU to gather information for later use and the data found in System memory is designed to sit. GDDR's memory was not designed to sit. Hopefully that makes sense. Oh, and you're free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Conroe has yet to prove itself. No one knows what Intel plans to do with it. The only thing we know is that it's a 65nm process. So far, their 65nm processors are crap and run extremely hot. The Presler is a joke. Intel pretty much overclocked their own processor just so they could say its as fast as what AMD is bringing out. It idles at 79C!!! Do you hear me?!?! IDLES AT 79C!!!

The AMD 64 FX-60 processor is just technologically better and more efficient. For example, the Presler has a Dual Core process that requires the cores to communicate to each other through the slow FSB. Everything in the Northbridge (and it's mother) is communicating through the FSB. There is simply not enough bandwidth for the core to communicate there. It's just not efficient. The FX-60 has a crossbar switch of 2ghz between each core so they can speak directly to each other inside the processor die.

Intel still uses the forever slow FSB while AMD uses an internal memory controller located directly INSIDE the processor. Hyper Transport also has a total of a 2ghz bandwidth (1ghz in and 1ghz out) that gives the system plenty of bandwidth to send and recieve data from the processor as well as everything else in the northbridge.

Besides, the Intel's "Dual Core" isn't even a true Dual Core processor. It's considered a Double Core processor. The reason why is because the processors have to share the same bandwidth to send and receive information. So, when you have the processor, the system memory and everything else in the north bridge fighting for bandwidth, you have what we call a bottleneck.

sorry to ask, but does anybody know when this will come out exactly (any guess about which month). and also when does socket m2 get released?

i just bought two amd athlon x2 4800s and im going to return them, they are great cpus but they suck because they cant support 4 gigs of ram. 4 FRICKIN GIGS!!! come on thats the biggest flaw in modern cpu technology. whatever intel is (and it does suck compared to amd performance/value wise) at least it can support more than 3 gigs of ram. im thinking about getting the presler 950
