connecting printers to a network

I have a simple network set up at home. Cable modem then a router to a few computers.

I got a cheapo 4-in-1 printer and it does not have a 10/100 port on the back of it.

Can I pick up one of those cheapo adapters off ebay that changes the usb to a 10/100 line(ethernet) and hook it directly to my router so I can print from any computer hooked to my router?

I dont think you'll be able to use a USB ethernet adapter ... you wouldnt be able to assign it an IP address or have it receive one via DHCP. However ... all is not lost ... you could purchase what is called a Jet Direct box which you hook up via use of your printer LPT port cable to the Jet Direct box, then via ethernet to your network. This box then would be configured to have an IP address within your network.

If you connect to your printer over the network then you lose the Scan functions of your printer. You will only be able to print and make copies.
