video converter

i need a free download of a video converter for avi to mpg (or anything itunes can play). i tried to google it, but everything was trials which left watermarks on the video. does anyone know a good converter? thanks

do you want it so it will play in itunes as a regular size video or a file that will play in an IPOD? There's a difference
