ok so i currently have a pretty crappy hp that i've had for a little over 2 and am thinking about doing a custom build pc. My budget for this is about $1600 and some things that i already have that ive bought for my hp are: a new psu w/ advertised 500W 12V@26 and 2 512 sticks of Corsair value select select ram sticks. i already have a monitor as well. oh yea and i would be mainly using this pc for games such as WoW, BF2, and F.E.A.R. any suggestions as to what i should will be greatly appreciated.
thanks

Get an amd x2, probably a 4200+. Then get an sli mobo, preferablly an asus, but msi is ok too, along with gigabyte. Then, go for a 400gb hd, 16mb buffer (wd or seagate or hitachi), a 7800gt, a coolermaster case, or any case that will fit the components really, any dvd rw drive, and the x-fi if you have funds left over. The audigy 2 is a great sound card, still. If you seriously want links, post and I'll give them to you.

sweet, thanks for the suggestions man. no links necessary i'll look at the parts over at newegg.com
thanks again

It could be anything. Number one thing is to make sure that whatever RAM you're looking to get is compatible with the motherboard. So check the motherboard specs on RAM support and get what it suggest. AMD motherboards generally use DDR400 or PC3200 as a base for compatible memory.

If your budget is around $1600, here's what I suggest. Many have different opinions as to what parts to use, but I feel these are very nice choices:

XFX PVT70FUND7 Geforce 7800GTX 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 VIVO PCI Express x16 Video Card - Retail

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ Toledo 1GHz FSB 2 x 1MB L2 Cache Socket 939 Dual Core Processor - Retail

ASUS A8N32-SLI Deluxe Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 SLI X16 ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail

Seagate Barracuda 7200.9 ST3120813AS 120GB 7200 RPM 8MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM

That should fall under $1600 plus room for a new case or sound card if you wish. It's a very nice setup. Gamer's delight. Your RAM and PSU may be upgraded later if you want to for higher performance.

The Toledo is very pricey. Get a 3800+ manchester instead. The price difference doesnt justify the performance difference. And shelling out ~$250 for an AMD motherboard is ridiculous. Get the ASUS A8N-SLI or DFI Ultra-D. Then get 2x1GB of Crucial Ballistix or G.Skill HZs. The Ballistix are the BEST 2x1GB kits out right now. Then come Infineon CE-6 and CE-5 then Samsung UCCC. The G.Skill HZs use UCCC. They can get >275 with 3-3-3 timings.

wow, owange. He has a high budget so you are telling him to go from a dual core 4400 to a 3800????
