With my new computer, everytime I turn it on I get a blank screen with the monitor stuck in "idle". I put the same video card into a friend's computer and it failed there too so it was determined to be a video card problem. The fan and lights on the video card DID work, however. My eVGA 6800GS arrived today and failed as well. As you might imagine this is highly frustrating. The monitor simply stays in idle and does nothing. I'm positive it's plugged in, for the record.

The power works. CD drive opens. CPU fan spins.

Specifications:
MSI K8N Neo4
AMD 3500+
WD 80GB
Corsair ValueSelect 1GB (2 x 512) PC3200
Raidmax 380w PSU

Is my best bet to isolate potentially defective components by testing them in other computers? Or is the problem clear and I'm not seeing it? I do not claim to be an advanced computer specialist but have built computers before.

Any advice is greatly appreciated in advance, thanks.

that powersupply is a little low at first glance, maybe you should start looking for a bigger one if you just bought that 6800 gs

I think you're on to something. If I may ask though, how sure are you? I would hate to drop $40 for a PSU even though I'm willing to do just about anything to fix it.

well the minimum recommended for a 6800GS is 350W.
So that psu should have what it takes, because the rest of the system is not that power hungry.

This was suggested to me by bulldoguk: make sure that the wires from the hd and power leds are connected properly on the motherboard.
