I'm ordering the parts for my new system tonight or tomorrow. I plan to go with AMD, simply 'cause I want to give it a shot after hearing everyone rave about it. I doubt I'll be disappointed.

However, would an Athlon with a clock speed of 2.0 GHz be faster or slower than a Pentium 4 with hyperthreading at an equivalent clock speed of 3.0 GHz?

I ask this because I remember reading somewhere that the HT technology of the Pentiums made them superior to AMDs normally.

I'd prefer to hear from someone who has tried both CPUs.

Eh.. gaming is better with Amd, but the Processor's with HT on them, like mine, are great for mulittasking. But however, going with an Amd 64 thats 2.0ghz will waste my Pent. 4 3.0ghz with HT anyday. (yes thats what im running). But yeah, that Amd will own anything. And you can even overclock and Amd Athlon 64, 2.0, to i think like 2.5-2.6 area. Though that might just be with watercooling.
