AMD has licensed patents from Rambus which will include the technology used in DDR2, DDR3, FB-DIMM and XDR controllers. AMD might use Rambus' DDR2 technology (not necessarily use their Intel counterpart's Rambus SDRAM, but supporting technology) in its first processors supporting the standard to be released in the second quarter.

Rambus DDR2? Is that really any better than regular DDR2 SDRAM? And why Rambus DDR2? What about that XDR thing?

Actually, it's all of them...

The license includes Rambus patents used in the design of DDR2, DDR3, FB-DIMM, PCI Express* and XDRâ„¢ controllers as well as other current and future high-speed memory and logic controller interfaces.

Alright, lol, sorry, overlooked that, but, damn...DDR2, DDR3, AND XDR? Isn't it going a little over the top?

XDR is overkill. Heck, the system hardware won't even utilize the full capabilities of XDR.

DDR2 is fast, DDR3 faster, and XDR out of this world fast ;)
DDR2 is getting really good now. You can get Corsair 5400ULs with 3-2-3-8 timings (something like that) Low timings are really nice to have with DDR2.
