Once again...Which card to buy...

I play games like:
halflife2, counterstrike source, day of defeat source, battlefield 2, battlefield 2 sf,cod2, f.e.a.r., quake4

my budget is 400-500$ CAD.

the only cards that appear in that range are:

Ati Radeon x1800 XL (256mb)
Ati Radeon x850
Nvidia Geforce 7800 gt
Nvidia Geforce 6800 ( 512mb )
what is the best card for me to get?

if i were u ide get the 7800gt being they have better drivers or well ati does have lots of complaints about there catalyst driver and im an nvida fan. and also if u overclock that 7800gt a little u can have a 7800gtx.

7800gt of course. The x1800xl is ok, but, when benchmarked, the 7800gt is the winner.

I would say the 7800gt or x1800xl. They are both about even in most benchmarks. Because the 7800gt is usually cheaper I would go with that.

I'm very bias so I must say the 7800GT.

My X800 plays all of those games, so what you are using it for is overkill, but since you're willing to spend the jack, get the 7900GT. I have had nvidia cards and ati cards, this ati is the best performing by far, but i liked nvidia's drivers a lot better, plus they just released new drivers that get a whopping 20% more performance out of the cards.

Nope, even with the 7800GT clocked to GTX speeds, it will never have the same performance as a GTX. A GT has 20 pipes and GTX has 24 pipes. The GT is NOT unlockable. They are locked at the core level.
