My ping in games is around 800!

Ok before my ping started to be around 800, me and my moms computer were the only ones hooked up to the router. And i would never get anymore than 35 ping. But now, my brothers computer just got connected to the router and now my pings at 800. I dident think it would raise THAT much! Why so much higher? Would my brother downloading things off limewire (porn) make it alot slower if he was just surfing the net?

Yeah, anything p2p, is going to cut the internet connection by more then half. So tell him to stop with the porn, and do that stuff at night! Geez!

K well your ping should NOT be that high, even if 2 people were downloading porn. Anything downloading while you're playing a game should only make your ping aroun 300 MAX, which still isn't playable but 800 is a little concerning. What internet connection do you have, and are you running a firewall?

I have a question. If you disconnect your brother's PC from the router, does your ping time drop back down?

If so, try updating the NIC drivers on his machine. Scan for spyware and viruses and make sure it is clean. The machine may be storming the router with packets causing network traffic and bringing your ping time up.

I highly doubt he knows what NIC is.

Chances are, if his brother is downloading enough porn to make his ping 800, his network is a beehive for viruses and spam.

have you opened up the port on the router to allow the p2p software to receive incoming data?

I know its limewire, cus when i told him to turn it off for a minute my ping went back down into the 30s. But how can limewire make it go from 30 to 800!?!?

Well I don't know how it can make it go that high. But basicly it just uses all of the available bandwidth, so it takes a long time for the game to communicate because it doesn't have much bandwidth.

U could always block the port that he uses, or u could just block him out of the whole router
