really slow performance on new components

I am setting up a new system, and i've had nothing but negative results. The whole computer runs very slowly, installing windows takes over 5 hours, and once installed the processor is completely used up by moving a window on screen. I don't understand what the problem is. I think i've done everything correctly.

Processor jumps up to 100% when i try to accomplish simple tasks.
Nero took over an hour to install.

did you set up the raid wrong or something?

raid is configured properly, i assume otherwise windows would probably not have installed correctly, also, i'm running windows xp professional with sp1
