Hello all, ive got a Hitachi harddrive that i want to wipe, is there any way of doing this without actually having it in a computer? i could put it in my old tower, and try it that way, but it would be easier if there was a way to wipe it without putting it in there, any ideas anyone? it has to work afterwards too, its for my old crappy hp lappy...

Go with your option of placing it in your old tower and formatting it or get a large magnet and sit in on the drive for a couple of mins, does work but risky as it may make the drive unusable.

i wouldnt have thought the magnet was the safest thing for the drive!

Plug it into old tower and format it! safe than sorry

True but it sure gets rid of the data ;)

This method is 100% safer than the first option :)

Ahh, well keyboard and mice are easy and cheap, you could borrow a montor from someone.
