Do heatsinks and fans usually come with the processor? I am buying an AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ and am wondering if I will need to buy a heatsink?

If you buy them "Retail", they will come with everything (CPU, Heatsink + fan, instructions). The thermal pad is included too, but it's hiding underneath the heatsink.

Nope.. OEM products are without retail packaging. In this instance your OEM Chip would probally turn up wrapped in a bit if bubble wrap inside a carboard box and thats ya lot. Retail is exactly that and tbh if your not planning major overclocking and whatnot it usually makes financial and simplistic sense to buy a Retail pack.

so retail is basically.. what u would get in a shelf in a store..
and oem is like ..... "second best" .. thanks

OEM is what venders like Dell buy.
Retail is what you'll find at Fry's or Best Buy

No, OEM is brand new just without the box and accessories, in the case of CPU's no fan etc, but still brand new.

You buy Reatil for motherboards, CPU. You can buy OEM for HDDs, Floppy Drives, CD/DVD Drives, PSU and RAM
