safely remove hardware?

I'm getting a "safely remove hardware" icon everytime I start windows and I dont even know what to remove it says to remove a USB mass storage device. I just got this computer yesterday and I really don't know whats installed and what isnt. Help is much appreciated.

Do you have one of those media card reader things? It could be that.

I think I do. If got all of this stuff I don't know about. MMC/SD, CompactFlashI/II, SmartMedia, and a MS/MS Pro drive.

Have you got a

USB modem?
USB CD/DVD Burner?
USB Printer?
USB Camera Attached?
USB Scanner?
Flash Drive?
USB Headset


Or any thing else like that would make the icon appear.

well I have a printer attached that I just remebered to install. But I was getting this message last night and I had nothing plugged into any of the USB ports.

Ya that looks sort of like it. Well I installed the printer and the icon is still up.

A usb device has been stopped. Now xp is assuming you want to remove it. Go back over every thing you have done since you got the machine. I'm willing to bet real money you stopped a device. Check your work...

Nope neither of them go through USB ports
