Am building my first Athlon System. I have a few alot of it so far. Just need cpu and mainboard really. Here is my list.

2x 512MB ATI Radeon X1800 XT (Crossfire)
2x 120 Samsung 7200rpm SATA HDD (Raid 0)
4x 512mb OCZ DDR2 *Gold Edition* Dual Channel Ram (2 GB total)
600w (700w peak) OCZ Powerstream PSU
Soundblaster X-FI
Monster Power Surge Protector with signal purify($300)

Now for mainboards I was thinking DFI LANPARTY UT RDX200 CF-DR
or going SLI with 2xgeforce's on this board DFI LANPARTY NF4 SLI-DR Expert. Anyone have a better idea for a mainboard?

As for CPU's. Keep in mind this is for gaming.

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ w/Fan $580.99
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ w/Fan $715.99
AMD Athlon 64 FX-53 w/Fan

What is the best CPU for gaming from AMD?

Again this is my first AMD rig so. I will take all the advise

I'd go with the dual 4400 cores because you are spending alot of money and it seems you have no limit, so go with dualies because they will be popular, they are pretty efficient, and they might not have as much POWER as that somewhat older FX model, but they are way more efficient and distribute everything equally, thus giving you great preformance for games and video/multimedia. I don't know, ou're system is great though!

1. You cant use DDR2 with an AMD system as of now.
2. I recommend getting 2X1GB instead of 4X512.
3. Go with a dual core 4400+
4. Get a DFI Nfroce 4 SLI-DR Expert
5. Get two 7800GTX's and SLI them.

I was told the timings on 512 sticks are faster then on 1 gig sticks. Is there any truth to this? My DDR2 ram is at 4447. Which sucks. I want that down to 2225.

I cant get the Geforce 7800 GTX's (512) in Canada. I have 2x 256mb Geforce GTX right now but the 512 ATI's are gonna kill it. That is why I am switching to ATI.

Or, get two Ati x850xt pe Radeon's

Why these cards over the 512mb X1800XT ???

Also if I plan on O/C'in the CPU what kinda of cooling should I have with my DFI board? I dont liquid cool EVER. So what kind of fan soloution should I be looking at getting. Will the stock AMD fans be enough?

Also will the opteron(sp) be a better choice? Dual core of course? Or are the 64 X2 better cpus?

OK, DDR2 only works on Intel systems.

4447 is the frequency. The higher the frequency the better.

You need to buy some DDR RAM. And this seems a bit of a laugh :(

Well that sucks.....There a reason AMD desided not to support DDR2 ram?????

Yes, because DDR2 gives no real advantage over DDR, except a couple of frames per second in games.

If you hang on, the M2 socket, being released in Spring 2005, will support DDR2.

sorry buddy, do your research please. 4-4-4-7 are his timings on his RAM. And when you put 4x512MB in an AMD system they automatically run at 2T command rate which will totally kill your bandwidth. Get some Crucial Ballistix if you arent afraid of RMA's or get some Mushkin 2GB Redlines which use Infineon CE-6 chips. The Ballistix use -5D b i think. OCZ works nicely too. Samsung UCCC i believe.
