Can someone please help me gather together parts with a budget of $500? No monitor and this is a computer for my uncle in Taiwan so it does not have to be top of the line obviousely.

No monitor + no power supply. I already have a windows xp home edition os but I already activated it, can I use that cd again?

Thanks a bunch

Yes you can use the OS again. Answer these questions:

AMD or Intel or not bothered?
What socket or not bothered?
PCI-E or AGP or not bothered?

Cheers.

No, you can not. Unless someone wants to correct me.

It is against microsofts terms of agreement to use a key that is meant for one computer on another. It is possible but not legal. I suggest purchasing a copy of xp home oem, its only like $85 more, and your key will be yours and his, his.

XP Home can be installed on a maximum of 4 PCs. XP Professional can be installed on as many PCs as you want. Which is why businesses use Professional.

no it can be registered 4 times before you have to call them to reset the key or get a new one. the terms of agreement states it is used per barebone system IE cpu, mobo, ram. I repair/build computer for a living and the company I work for is partnered with microsoft.

The maximum of 4pc you are refering to is the amount of cpus windows xp can support with one key. Meaning there are mobos out there that can handle 4 cpus and if there are more than that you have to have purchase more than 1 key.

and btw the only way professional can be put on as many pcs as possible is if you have an academic key or corparate key (sp) if you go buy a copy of profession out of the store, you can not put it on as many machines as you want. In order to get an academic key or corparate key you have to get it directly from microsoft.

Theres alot of wuzzies on here. Yes you can install that same windows CD on your Uncles computer. Only problem is if he ever runs into trouble and needs the OG cd he wont have it.
