One word....pointless!

Only games at the moment which need 512MB on the graphics card is Doom 3 at Ultra Settings, and no 6600GT or 6600 can play it decently with that setting. Most games have been adjusted to need more system RAM than graphics card RAM, the latter makes no difference apart from on some ATi cards, mainly the X800s (128mb is much slower than 256mb for some reason)

Which is why the 7800GTX 512MB is way overkill. Actual performance difference between a 256MB and a 512MB is not worth the extra $300.

I'm assuming the 512MB version of the 6600GT is the same way too. It's nice to see that nVidia is trying to squeeze everything they can out of that little card.

Uh. first off. It's not 6600GT 512MB, it's just 6600 vanilla. Second off, the diference betwee nthe 256MB and 612MB version of the 7800GTX are much higher clocks. The core clock is about 200MhZ higher and the memory clock is 500MhZ higher. You tell me that's not a major difference?

The 6600GT will kick the shit out of the 6600 512MB edition any day.

I mean the 6600, didn't know where the GT came from. As far as the 7800GTX's, uuhhhhhhhh yes, not a major difference between the 256MB and the 512MB according to these graphs. However, the benches the 512MB did edge out the 256MB was at least by a margin of a 30% increase in performance which isn't that shabby. But all in all, the 256MB and 512MB are amost on par with each other in performance enhancements at a very different value in price. To me, that is not significant enough for me to go out and spend an entire paycheck for it.
