Well since my school has such stupid filters I got annoyed. They allowed forums about 6 months ago. I used to be able to post on this forum at will. Well one day I found it filtered. I started to experiment and got round them easily to start with. Well they got more clever and I decided to venture into the mysterious world of proxy servers. Well throughout this time I happily used one untill it got banned/blocked (today) So I immediatley found another and carried on bypassing the filters. Untill...Bam! My work station logged me off.
I got a note in form the next morning to go see the head of ICT. Wasnt really worried, since I though he wanted to see me about my absense in his lessons. But no...I got a massive telling off, and he had decided not to take it any further since I hadnt been on anything inappropiate. *SIGH* Ive had a rubbish month....
Ok, Don't be offended but IMO.
There are filters in place for a reason... Look at those reasons;
- The internet is logged, if someone does fraud from a school computer then the IT admin needs to know. Why? If the feds come to the school, they will go to the IT admin, if he doesn't have any logs or filters in place then he will get the bad side of what a fraudster or anyone else has done.
- The IT admins job is to stop people from going to sites they are not soposed to...
- Why are the computers even in the school? They are there as a tool, not a toy. You use the computer to go on the net, to RESEARCH information... Not porn. You also use the computer in school for typing out documents, and not playing games.
Yeah this may sound gay and all, But i am 17 and i have been through what you are doing at the moment. Getting around the filters etc to go and look at forums. To be honest, I would go and see your IT admin and ask if you can get some IT experience and get to know him. Yeah he sounds like a down right arse, but he is doing his job. If he got audited and they found that he was not logging and blocking offensive sites, he would loose his job. He has to moderate the data on that network, thats a big job and when your an IT admin it is not easy.... You have a lot of risks and responsibilities.
But meh, good on you for getting past his filters. Go and tell him that you are happy to exploit other parts of his network. I setup a deal with an IT admin back in college, If i found a security hole or some way to gain more access than i originially did, Then i would go tell the admin and i would find a way to patch it. He would then pay me some cash, or let me have admin access to play games at lunch times for a few weeks
Its all about respect, if you respect the admin but help them out without fucking things up, then you will get more access and privileges if you know how to communicate properly
Good luck ^.^
