Half Life 2 HELP DESPERATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Does yours work in offline mode? Mine rarely would, even if everything was updated 100%. It also sucks that you can't just download patches- a friend of mine doesn't have the internet so to play on LAN he would have to take his PC somewhere else to update it and then bring it back.

can you not hook the net up to ur comp, d/l steam, install steam and hl2 (and whatever else), then use steam in "offline mode"?
