Ok, to make it short, I need a new hard drive. I want great performance, and pretty good storage capacity under or close to $100 dollars. I looked around and couldn't find much help, tests seemed to show that sata3.ogb/s isn't any faster than sata150, and that 8mb cache doesn't do much more than 8mb cache. I don't know what information to believe, so I'm asking you guys to help me select a hard drive.

what the difference between a SATA hard drive and a normal one?
do u need a SATA compatible motherboard for a SATA hard drive.

Yes. SATA have it's own controller separate from the EIDE devices. Most new motherboards these days have them so it's no big deal. They are as common as DVD burners. SATA hard drives are suppose to be faster than traditional UltraATA hard drives. The data cable used is very thing, thinner than half an inch so it allows excellent air flow in side the computer case.

Looks good. More storage and cheaper too. It uses SATA 2 so it's really new. With hard drives, they're all pretty much the same. Once you to to SCSI and those 10,000RPM drives, then we're talking differences.
