Future Spec?

no, not only is the cache different, it uses a better memory controller, the 146 opterons can be found for 199 on monarch. That is a bargain for such a great cpu IMO. The better memory controller than the A64's will weild higher overclocks, and compute things much much faster.

I'll consider Opterons for future server builds, but at the same time, I'm still drooling over the Athlon 64 X2 4400+ or 4800+. Just watch when next year comes around and these Toledo cores become a thing of the past. Change is good...

how about dual cores running at 3.0Ghz+? now that is insane. Two cores running at 3.0GHz+ each. So much processing power. wow, 1,111 posts :D

both of u hitting records. anyways i should go for an opteron? i still have three years so i could ge tmore money and i could go for another super gaming pc/do your homework pc(rarely used) so would that b good? i mean i awnt a good home theatre system too.

wait for the M2 socket, thats what i would do. Cuz then the S939 platform would drop in price.

Now the M2, that's what I'm waiting for. My next build will be based around that. But damn, it won't come out until April. Oh well. DDR1, Socket 939 will stick around well into 1st quarter of 2007 anways.

Next year, Nvidia supported Socket M2 will be the new replacements for the Socket 939. There's already a line of CPUs ready for the Socket M2 including:

Athlon 64 FX-62 Windsor M2
Athlon 64 X2 5200+ Windsor M2
Athlon 64 X2 5000+ Windsor M2
Athlon 64 X2 4800+ Windsor M2
Athlon 64 X2 4600+ Windsor M2
Athlon 64 X2 4200+ Windsor M2
Athlon 64 4000+ Orleans M2
Athlon 64 3800+ Orleans M2
Athlon 64 3500+ Orleans M2
