The National Security Hotline was set up to receive information from members of community who wish to report any activity which they feel may be relevant to national security and warrant further investigation. It also provides information on a wide range of national security matters.
By establishing a single point of contact for national security information, the National Security Hotline enhances the ability of the community and government to work together to safeguard Australia's national security.
The National Security Hotline, established in December 2002, is part of the Protective Security Coordination Centre within Australian Government Attorney-General's Department. It operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week and is staffed by advisers with a wide range of backgrounds, including police, security and military experience.
Information reported to the National Security Hotline is relayed to the relevant police and/or security agency.
Information will be treated confidentially, and callers can, if they wish, remain anonymous.
