I have been planning on building a computer for the longest time. I want to put a 3000+ in it but I was looking around and the Athlon X2 4200+ cost about 300 dollars more then the 3000+. I am mostly going to be using my computer for gaming. Is it worth getting the dual core processor now, or should I get the 3000+ and maybe upgrade sometime after Christmas to the dual core?

There's no point in buying a CPU now and then spending yet more money upgrading a brand new CPU in just over a month's time.

I'd say get the X2 if you can - it's newer and thus more futureproof.

I would get a faster, single core cpu. It will still last you for a while. For the price of a 4200+, you can get a 4000+ which is still incredibly fast....

For single core, go with the Opteron 146. Oh baby. It's $200 and this baby can beat out any Pentium 4 any day, any time.
