Quake games use their own engines. So the don't license the SDK from a certain company like Havok or Ageia, instead, they just make their own and implement it.

I don't really like the EA Battlefield engine - in BF2 you can see the scenery actually bends like it's flexible in some places! You can see the textures physically moving on a rockface etc.
