I also had this sort of problem with my MSN account. I replied to an email that I shouldn't have and the hacker got my msn name and password. Basically took over my account and all. MSN has an email help center that can help you retrieve your password, however, you will have to create a new hotmail account so they can contact you to send you your new password and etc. It took me about 10 days to get back my account because they have to verify that it is you that is getting back your account and not some hacker so be prepared for a bunch of questions from MSN.
