I video edit w/ my Sony Vaio, but I don't care about that comp although its fast:
P4 3.2 Ghz ~ 1.50 gb RAM ~ 250 HD ~ DVD-RW ~ CD Rom ~ ATI 9200
My sony runs fast on video editing, it also comes with some editing softwares. I bought Adobe Premiere, Smart Sound, Adobe Photoshop etc. installed it and its great.

I Recently built a computer that is awsome for gaming/video:
P4 3.2 Ghz ~ 1 gb RAm ~ DVD-RW ~ 300 HD ~ ATI x700 PCI-E
Its freakin' AWSOME! It loads instantly and the video is so smooth on it. Although it doesn't come with softwares that the sony does, you can still buy them. This computer, in my opinion, is better because of you don't get all the crap that you don't want on the computer, only that thing you want to install. ...and it looks great!

lol, i am waiting to get to college. I am gonno go all out on a computer. I am in the price range of...$6000-8000 I can't wait!!! 2 more years

I would say go for an Athlon 64 or a socket-939 Sempron, with at least 512MB DDR400 RAM, preferably in dual-channel configuration.
