I need a laptop for basic wordprocessing and spreadsheets. No gaming. Internet access. It needs to be cheap and reliable (!)

The battery life isn't mentioned, but I'm guessing I'd need around 4 hours.

If you can recommend any other cheap laptops, I'd be very greatful!!

Cheers.

That isnt bad for word processing and stuff, but it would be nicer if you had 512mb of ram. And how cheap is cheap just so I know?

If all you're doing is word processing and going on the net, that should be fine.

But the problem is WinXP itself takes up 256Mb of RAM, so 512 would be a much better option for all-round performance.

Thats a good idea, upgrade the ram and you will have a good computer for what you want it for.

I have around £500.00 to spend. How easy would it be to up to 512mb ram? Could I do it myself? COST??

Any other recomendations would be appreciated......

i have a less powerful laptop right now that i'm using i play guildwars with it and it doesnt even lag its great for wordprocesing!

To be fair though, Guild Wars will run on basically anything.

But yeah, you may buy a laptop that looks cheap and nasty but does more than you'd expect - you may be pleasantly surprised :D

I agree upgrading to 512 MB Ram... You could also lower your HD size... WXP itself takes ~2GB. With the office applications, it would be ~3GB.
