Need some help with upgrading

Not really. It's just a matter of making sure everything is compatible and plugging things in. Most parts only goes in one way. We've had a lot of people that never built a PC before and completed one all the way through on here. I don't think there's anyway you can upgrade that Pentium 3 unless you go with a Pentium 4 or an Athlon 64 CPU. But you'll also have to get a new motherboard in the process and upgrade the RAM too. PC100 is no longer supported. We use DDR SDRAM now which uses new RAM modules rate at DDR333, DDR400, and higher.

Any suggestions on what I should get for a motherboard?

From TigerDIrect Canada, here's a motherboard/CPU combo:

ABIT KU8 ULi Socket 754 ATX Motherboard and an AMD Athlon 64 3700+ 2.40GHz Processor
http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1600049&Sku=MBM-KU8-3700

Price is not bad, but it uses a Sempron processor (budget CPU). Still a massive upgrade from what you have. Totally much faster than the 550MHz in your machine.

This is much better:

DFI NF4 Infinity NVIDIA Socket 939 ATX Motherboard / Audio / PCI Express / Gigabit LAN / USB 2.0 & Firewire / Serial ATA / RAID
http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1495397&Tab=2&NoMapp=0

AMD Athlon 64 3500+ / 512KB Cache / 2000MHz FSB / Socket 939 / Venice Core / Processor with Fan
http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1366613

But it cost a lot more. THey're purchased separately but it's a better performer.

I was thinking of maybe getting the motherboard you linked but instead of that Sempron processor, getting this Intel Pentium 4 506 2.66GHz / 1MB Cache / 533 FSB / Socket 775 / Processor. Is that good?

dont even bother trying to upgrade your pc right now cause its so outdated it wouldnt help u much so that means u r going to have to get a new pc, u mentioned u wanted to play games on it so i suggest an amd cpu and make sure its socket 939 not 754, for a motherboard i suggest a ABIT, MSI or ASUS and make sure its nforce 4, for ram u should get 1GB of dual channel and as for the graphics card a 6600gt would be good but if u have the money try getting a 6800gt or even a 7800gtx :D

Pentium 4s to me don't work as well as Athlon 64s. They tend to have heating problems and heat is a big contributor to performance degradation. Most people on here use the Athlon 64's for their primary CPU. But if you still want a Pentium 4, here's one you can get using the LGA775 Socket:

Gigabyte 8I915PL-G Intel Socket 775 ATX MotherBoard and a Pentium 4 521 2.80GHz Processor
http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1578167&CatId=0

I like this one:

Intel D955XBKLKR Intel Socket 775 ATX Motherboard and an Intel Pentium D 840 3.20GHz Processor
http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1539630&CatId=0

Dual Core!!!!

I like this one:

MSI 925XE Neo Platinum-54G Intel Socket 775 ATX Motherboard and an Intel Pentium 4 561 3.60GHz Processor

Oh Pentium 4's aren't that great? I just know I use a Pentium III right now I might look into an Athlon one then.

For AMD, get this one:

MSI K8N Neo4 SLI Socket 939 ATX Motherboard and an AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ Processor with FREE copies of FarCry and Bet On Soldier: Blood Sport PC Games
http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1580509&CatId=0

Honestly, there are so many great choices. It's how much you're willing to spend on a good high performance machine. Here's a cheaper one:

Chaintech VNF4 nForce4 Socket 939 ATX Motherboard and an AMD Athlon 64 3800+ 2.40GHz Processor
http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1534255&CatId=0

I want you to have the PCI-e support at least because that is new technology. DOn't want to use AGP anymore.

Wow, well I can honestly say I don't have 1000 dollars on me right now. I was thinking 100-200 dollars for Motherboard, 100-200 for processor (maybe a bit more) I don't know about the other stuff right now.

Here's a simple solution. Get them separately. Here's the motherboard first:

MSI K8N Neo4-F NVIDIA Socket 939 ATX Motherboard / Audio / PCI Express / Gigabit LAN / USB 2.0 / Serial ATA
http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1366536&CatId=0

Now for the CPU:

AMD Athlon 64 3000+ / 512KB Cache / 2000MHz FSB / Socket 939 / Venice Core / Processor with Fan
http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1366603&CatId=0

This is the most basic CPU you can get for that motherboard. It is a good performing CPU.

RAM:

Corsair Value Select Dual Channel 1024MB PC3200 DDR 400MHz Memory ( 2 x 512MB )
http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=669365&CatId=1838

Basic stuff, but great performance.
