hey im attempting to build a computer and i seem to have hit a rut. i was considering buying a gforce 7800 gt, but my friend told me that if i am to get anything out of my geforce 7800 i have to buy i higher end processor like an AMD 64 FX55. Is this true? or could i use a cheaper processor like an AMD 4000?

It helps to have a high performance CPU to go with your high performance video card. But you don't necessarily have to have an FX CPU. Athlon 64 4000+ would do wonders.

You don't necessarily have to have a FX processor just to get good results with the 7800 's.

The AMD Athlon 64 4000+ processor. This baby has the San Diego core, which can overclock really well. You can easily overclock to FX-55 speeds or faster at about half the price. Keep in mind that overclocking Athlon 64's will always be limited, because the multipliers are locked (all FX series processors have unlocked multipliers).

If you're willing to buy a 7800GT, might as well get the GTX. Just my 2 cents on that.

no, dont get a 4000+, get a 3700+ itll easily oc to FX-57 speeds and its cheaper too.

Athlon 64 3500+ will clock around the same as a 4000+ or 3200+X2. If you plan to overclock I highly suggest you get a DFI board.

they dont have 3500+X2 or 3200+X2...If you are talking about single cores, get a 3200+ from www.ewiz.com 3200+ can clock up to 2.7 average on a DFI board, but you will need some mushkin redlines or OCZ Gold VX. Better get the Redlines fast cuz they are discountinued.
