Win Xp Cd cannot install xp files.

I bought a Win XP Pro Cd (not upgrade but full version) for bestbuy. I tried installing it but some of the files were not able to be install on the hard drive. It is a brand new cd and it doesnt work.

What should i do? return it to best buy or call microsoft?

first of all, are you sure that your hard drive is good? and did you do a full format before you tried to install it? is the cd scratched or anything?
if it doesn't work after you try it again, I would take it back to best buy, you might have gotten a defective cd or something.

yep, the hard drive is brand new, i just got it. i installed xp before using the same cd, but then i had to return the hard drive cuz the previous hard drive was defective.

i'll check to see if i can get another copy of the xp cd.

You've installed it before using that cd? was it a good install? are you sure it was the drive that was defective?

It was a good install. Everything was running just fine.

What should I check? the cd drvie or the cd.

check the cd, try installing it again and see what happens though.

What I recommend you do is when installing it, delete all the partitions you have and then create one again to install it on, That means that youll have a clean Hard drive, no files on it

Then Make sure you format it correctly
