Hi everybody I am new to the board, I am really sorry if this question has been asked before.

Anyway I have recently bought a dvd-rw but as soon as i tried to burn a dvd it took 9 hours to transcode it first?!?! I don't understand why this is and is there any quicker way to burn dvd's?

thank you very much for any help, I will be so grateful

um...

Hopefully you have your burners drivers installed. Some burners use your mb's or xp's default drivers, but for the ones that are supposed to use their own specific drivers, win xp drivers will make the process incredibly slow. If yours doesnt have its own drivers, you might want to up the speed, I once had a cd-rw drive that by default was on 2x, and it took like 3 hours to burn a full cd. Hope this helps.

(What software are you using to burn with)?

i'm using nero burning rom se 6 and i think the cables thing doesn't apply as I'm using an external dvd writer and it's connected via usb 2.0

how do i find out if my drivers need updating and where can i find them?

thanks for all the help so far

Alot of it candeal with your processor. My friends Athlon XP 3200+ With 1GB RAM takes forever. My Athlon 64 3000+ W/ 1GB RAM takes like 5 hours I think...
