I built my pc, and since then, all my computer parts have become out of date (i havn't even got agp). So i'm going to upgrade my motherboard, graphics card, ram and processor. i don't really know which cpu to go for though - pentium or amd. i reckon i will go for amd 64-bit since i have an amd now, but is pentium any better? i've heard for the graphics card i should go for a pci express (is it really better than agp?), but ati or nvidea? i will get 2gb of ddr ram as well. But i don't know anything about shopping for motherboards! what should motherboard should i get for the above spec? :D

PCI-e is the way to go because it has has a faster bus than AGP. ATi and Nvidia are highly competitive when it comes to video cards so I guess it comes down to personal preference. There are people that swear by ATi while others like me enjoy the Nvidia cards. The 7800GTX is really impressive and currently the fastest card in its class.

For motherboards, go with reputable companies like Abit, Asus, Gigabyte, MSI, DFI are good manufacturers for motherboards. Make sure you're using the nForce4 chipset of equivalent because it's most current and offers more performance features than previous chipsets. Are you strictly into performance? There are motherboards that feature Nvidia's SLi technolgy in which two video cards can be used at one time in sharing its GPU.

You should get an Athlon 64 or an Athlon 64 X2 if you can afford that. They run cooler than Intel and benchmarks for Athlon 64s totally dominate Intel CPUs.

The 6600 is a good chip. I had it, and it ran games pretty well. I donno about that brand, though. Diablotek? Sounds kinda shady. Go for an MSI or Gigabyte or something.

a little of topic but is that an alien wearing a bra? lol that is funny. for graphics card get a 256 the 512s dont have enough pixel pipelines and i dont beleiver there is a way to unlock them yet someone correct me if im wrong.

Yeah, the 512Mb cards are still early technology and need more time to actually become more viable, and more cost effective. Stick with 256Mb for the minute, and just look out for a card that has a bare minimum of 12 pipelines, but try and stick to 16 and above :)

If you want the best on a budget, then go for this nice combination:

AMD Athlon64 X2 3800+ (Dual core CPU with two processors on one chip for EXTREME performance and multitasking ability)
