startup probelm.

ok my cousins recently had something happen to there pc. first they did something i forgot what but now the pc wont start. first it loads up and stuff then just says could not startup and then just shuts down immediatly. its an old pc i think they built it. we tried reformating it but i dont have a cd key for it. so anyone know what else i can do? if worst comes to worst we'll probaly get a new xp cd.

well to fix it we are going to need more info. firsst your going to have to ask them what they did to it. second some specs would be nice.
